Service Dog Training

Service dogs are so much more than pets. These furry companions take the concept of “caretaking” up a notch by becoming the eyes, ears, and sometimes alert systems for individuals with disabilities. Service dog training is the process of training a dog into becoming just that. Controlled K9 specializes in training service dogs to perform tasks that help their owners lead more independent lives.
Every service dog is different because every owner’s needs are individual to them. At Controlled K9, we train service dogs for the task at hand. Our customized service dog training programs make these dogs a valuable asset to the lives of their handlers. We train service dogs for a variety of purposes, including but not limited to:
- Medical Alert Dogs
- Guide Dogs
- Hearing Dogs
- Mobility Assistance Dogs
- Diabetic Alert Dogs
- Seizure Response Dogs
- Allergy Detection Dogs
- Autism Assistance Dogs
- Psychiatric Service Dogs
Our Service Dog Training Programs – Training Dogs One Paw at a Time
Service dog training is not a one-size-fits-all solution. Every partnership with a pet is a unique opportunity to learn about the animal, the owner, and their relationship. At Controlled K9, we offer two main service dog training programs.
Owner-Assisted Service Dog Program
Our Owner-Assisted Service Dog Program is for individuals who want to train their own dog with our support. Through a combination of board-nd-train services and one-on-one coaching, we guide you and your dog through each step of the service dog journey.
We focus on real-world training with practical goals. Your dog will learn task-specific skills like item retrieval, sound alerting, or mobility support, all of which will be based on your needs. We also prepare dogs to stay focused and calm in public spaces like grocery stores, restaurants, or crowded events.
Features of the Owner-Assisted Service Dog Program include:
- Structured training focused on disability-related tasks
- Public access readiness and behavior in busy environments
- Ongoing private lessons and lifetime support
James is excellent! He trained our Australian Shepherd as a service dog for a medically needed task. James is extremely knowledgeable and professional. From our first consultation, I knew James would be able to achieve our goal that we needed with our pup. Most importantly, he took excellent care of our dog. Cannot recommend enough!
